TIA Architects
TIA Architects is a small practice in Amherst, Massachusetts located in the NACUL Center for Ecological Architecture. I first sought to learn with TIA based on their commitment to socially and environmentally conscious design practices. Lead by principle architect Tullio Inglese, TIA achieves these ideals on a practical level through the integration of passive solar design, green roofs, non-toxic building materials, and the harnessing of wind and geothermal energy into their building proposals. TIA also works on socially innovative projects such as cooperative housing and compact, sustainable communities, which reconsider the ways in which we live and work together.
During my time as an intern at TIA, we worked on a proposal for the New Hope School, a Chinese immersion program to be located in Hadley, Massachusetts. The initial plans were set to accommodate 300 students with the possibility to expand as the school continued to grow. After an initial site study, we worked with both traditional hand drafting techniques and CAD programs to develop a site plan and building designs for the school. I have included plans and elevations for the three buildings to which I made significant design and hand drafting contributions.
