Valkis Furniture

VALKIS is an incubator project I worked collaboratively on with the makers at Whetstone Workshop, a metal fabrication shop in Providence, RI. The project offered an opportunity to engage with small scale manufacturing economies and to understand the role they are playing in contemporary American industry. The bulk of the fabrication work is done on mid-century manufacturing equipment - simple mechanical technologies built to last the ages. All components of each are made in house with any complementary work such as finishing being done within city limits. Every step along the way bears the mark of tangible labor and process.
